IELTS One Skill Retake
If one section let you down, re-sit just that skill instead of the whole test.
IELTS One Skill Retake lets you re-take a single section of computer-delivered IELTS (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) within 60 days of your original test. You then receive a new Test Report Form (TRF) that shows your latest score for the retaken section alongside your other three scores from the original test.
It is available for computer-delivered IELTS Academic and General Training, including IELTS for UKVI, and is offered at IDP IELTS Kuwait.

- Candidates who need a specific minimum band in one skill for a university, professional body or visa.
- Candidates who want to improve their score without sitting the entire test again.
How it works

Sit your full IELTS test
Take a computer-delivered IELTS Academic or General Training test at an IDP test centre in Kuwait.

Receive your results
Review your band scores on each section, you have 60 days from your test date to book a One Skill Retake.

Book your retake
Choose which section to retake and book your slot through the official IELTS portal.

Get your new TRF
After your retake, IELTS issues a new Test Report Form. You and the institutions you nominated can use whichever TRF gives the better outcome.

Frequently asked questions
How long after my test can I take One Skill Retake?
You can book and sit a One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original test date. After 60 days, you would need to sit the full test again.
Can I retake more than one section?
No. One Skill Retake covers a single section. If you need to improve in two or more sections, you sit the full IELTS test again.
Does One Skill Retake work for paper-based IELTS?
No. One Skill Retake is only available for computer-delivered IELTS, including IELTS for UKVI.
Will my new TRF replace the original one?
No. You receive a new TRF showing your latest score for the retaken section alongside your other three original scores. You and recognising organisations can choose whichever TRF gives the better outcome.
Will the organisation I am applying to accept a One Skill Retake TRF?
Most do, but not all. Always confirm with the receiving organisation (university, employer, immigration authority) before booking.
Is the speaking retake also computer-delivered?
No. The Speaking section, whether in the full test or a One Skill Retake, is always a face to face conversation with a certified examiner.
